How many psychology sessions will I need?

At Still Moving, most people see us for 6 to 10 sessions. We clarify goals early and review progress as we go. If it becomes clear that you would benefit from support beyond this timeframe, your psychologist will discuss this with you openly. Our aim is not to extend therapy unnecessarily, but to ensure you receive the right support.

How many psychology sessions does Medicare cover?

With a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, Medicare currently provides rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Medicare rebates range from approximately $100 to $145 under mental health care plans.

What type of therapy do you use?

Evidence-based psychological practice. A range of treatment modalities are drawn upon and individualised to the patient. These may include: CBT, solution-focused therapy, IFS, Schema, EMDR. We work collaboratively and adapt therapy flexibly to support focused shorter term work.

Standard 50-minute individual therapy sessions are usually between $280 and $300, depending on the therapist. Our fees are guided by the Australian Psychology Society (APS) guidelines. Medicare rebates are available with a valid GP referral.

What conditions do you specialise in?

Common conditions we see: ADHD in adulthood, Anxiety and overthinking, Low mood and depression, Burnout and stress, Parenthood and life transitions, Attachment and relational issues, and Perfectionism. Conditions currently outside the scope of our practice include: Personality disorders, Complex Trauma and PTSD, Anorexia, Schizophrenia & Psychoses, Substance use & addiction, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), Crisis or acute risk, Family violence, Forensic or legal matters, and Workplace or third-party claims.

Fees & Rebates

Our fees are reviewed annually in line with changes to Medicare rebates and the national recommended fee schedules published by the APS and AAPi, which are updated each year on 1 July.

Individual Therapy

This schedule is a guide for a typical 50-minute session (both in-person and via telehealth) during standard business hours. Exact fees are shown when booking and can vary slightly between clinicians.

Assessments

This schedule is a guide for comprehensive, multi-session assessments (both in-person and via telehealth) during standard business hours. Fees are based on the clinical time of the practitioner you see, at their hourly clinical rate. Additional parent or informant interviews at the request of the client are also billed transparently at the clinician’s standard rate.

Rebates may apply to the initial consultation with a valid GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan, and to therapy sessions after assessment. The assessment itself is privately billed.

About our fees

If you have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for a rebate.
- Rebate for Psychologist: $101.55 per session
- Rebate for Clinical Psychologist: $149.05 per session
- Available for up to 10 sessions per calendar year
- Rebates are processed after payment and returned to your nominated bank account
You do not need a referral to book, but a referral must be in place before your session to claim a rebate.
Once you reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold, you may be eligible to receive:
- The standard rebate plus
- Up to 80% of your out-of-pocket cost
This can significantly reduce the cost of ongoing sessions.

We do, however a $30 surcharge applies to appointments outside of standard business hours.
All appointments that:
- Commence prior to 9:00am
- Finish beyond 5:00pm
- Weekends or public holidays
Some private health funds provide rebates for psychological services.
- Rebate amounts vary depending on your provider and level of cover
- Please check directly with your insurer
Before making an enquiry, please note that this service does require bank card details to be placed on file.
Payment is required at the time of your appointment. All payments are processed automatically through the healthcare software system, Halaxy.
For your security, neither our practice nor Halaxy has access to your full card details. Your information is encrypted, tokenised, and securely stored by Braintree (a subsidiary of PayPal).
Medicare rebates are processed after you have attended your appointment as per Medicare requirements.
Your appointment time is reserved for you. Please give us at least 2 business days notice to avoid cancellation fees.
- Less than 1 business day notice (or non-attendance): 100% of the consultation fee
- Less than 2 business days notice: 50% of the consultation fee
Cancellations made outside of business hours are processed from the next business day.
